Essential oils are extracted from plants and are 100% all natural (unless stated; look for the brands that are 100% pure). These oils have been used to relieve small aches and pains, but during the last years lots of us have experienced the positive impact they can have on your mind with no side effects! Depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, etc. we all experience or have experienced any of these conditions, and we often look for solutions which can have lots of side effects. I personally use essential oils often and I love them! Here are my top 5 and what they are for:
-Rosemary: I add some drops to my neti pot and I can tell it makes a huge difference in my allergies or sinus problems. Also, it is used for stress (inhaled), stimulates hair growth (you can add some drops to your shampoo) and improves circulation (you can get a massage with rosemary essential oil).
-Bergamot: If you mix it with a carrier oil it can be applied to pimples or acne and it works great and it lowers stress and increases energy (inhaled).
-Tangerine: It calms down te nervous system leaving your relaxed and content (inhaled), and it kills bacteria (can be used in wounds).
-Lavender: It has antimicrobial properties so it can be used to create a homemade deodorant and it has a calming effect and can help with stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia (inhaled). I always use it before bed or during yoga.
-Peppermint: I started using it because peppermint increases blood flow so I added some drops to my shampoo to stimulate blood flow in my scalp (it works!), it is great for increasing energy, focus (inhaled) and by mixing it with a carrier oil it is great for a massage that will help body aches (sore muscles).
If you want to apply essential oils to your skin (for a massage for example) make sure you don’t apply them directly to your skin (they can cause irritation), use a carrier oil (coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc.) and make your own mix using some essential oil drops+carrier oil.
