Are holidays sometimes stressful for you? I got you! I was there too and looking back I can’t believe how many beautiful moments I took for granted just because I was controlled by my thoughts. Holidays are meant to be enjoyable, full of love and gratitude but sometimes we forget about this and all we can think about is FOOD! We can eat EVERYTHING in moderation and enjoy this time without going crazy but what worked for me was to stop focusing so much on food and instead enjoy the moments… Moments with my family, friends, feeling grateful for my health, my journey and everything I have; food is secondary (of course it nourishes our bodies and is essential for our health) but primary food (love, moments, gratitude, etc.) is food for our soul which can be more fulfilling than the food we eat everyday.
Here are my tips for staying healthy&fit during holidays:
•Stick to your healthy regimen: A healthy lifestyle is not a quick and boring diet that you follow for a certain amount of time until you lose x amount of pounds. A healthy lifestyle means listening to your body (hunger&fullness), eating healthy and nourishing foods most of the time, eating not so healthy foods that you enjoy in moderation without feeling guilty, exercising in a way that makes you feel good and resting when needed. Remember, whatever you do to change your lifestyle/physique needs to be something that you can sustain and that you enjoy.
•Stay active: Holidays should not be an excuse to stop exercising! In fact, you should stay as active as possible. I always add some extra cardio during holidays (walking outdoors, taking stairs instead of elevator, parking far, dancing, etc.)
•Stay Hydrated: During Holidays our food choices might be different from what we eat on a daily basis and this can cause water retention. This can be prevented by drinking lots of water and avoiding salt when possible.
•Don’t go crazy with alcohol: We all enjoy having some drinks (and maybe getting a little bit tipsy lol) but during holidays we are already consuming extra calories from food. So keep your drinks to a minimum and enjoy every sip!
•Don’t stress: Stres can cause a lot of harm to our bodies! Holidays should not cause stress and we should feel content and relaxed. If you indulged a little bit more than expected you can always get back to your healthy regimen. It’s completely normal to feel a little bit more fuller during this time but no one has died from it lol! don’t stress; stress= cortisol = weight gain! So take a chill pill and your body will respond in a positive way.
•Be grateful and enjoy: Take away your focus from food/fitness and instead enjoy every single moment. Gratitude is the best way to realize how blessed we are and what truly matters.
Happy holidays! Remember…Your body hears what your mind says… so be kind ❤️
